roduce Clerk Job Description
A Produce Clerk is responsible for receiving, preparing, displaying, and maintaining fresh fruits and vegetables in grocery stores, supermarkets, and other retail food establishments. They ensure produce is fresh, properly stocked, attractively displayed, and correctly labeled with prices. Produce Clerks inspect products for quality, remove damaged or expired items, rotate stock to maintain freshness, and assist with inventory management. They also help customers select produce, answer questions about products, and maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary produce department. By following food safety and hygiene standards, Produce Clerks help provide customers with high-quality fresh products and an enjoyable shopping experience.
Main Responsibilities:
- Receive, inspect, and stock fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Arrange and replenish produce displays.
- Remove damaged, spoiled, or expired products.
- Rotate stock to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
- Label products and ensure pricing is accurate.
- Assist customers with product selection and inquiries.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the produce department.
- Follow food safety and workplace health regulations.
Important Skills:
A successful Produce Clerk should have excellent customer service and communication skills, attention to detail, organizational and time management abilities, physical stamina, and the ability to lift and move produce safely. Knowledge of fresh produce handling, food safety and hygiene practices, teamwork, reliability, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment are also essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities
Tasks
- Direct customers to location of articles sought
- Unpack products received by store and count, weigh or sort items
- Maintain computerized stock inventory
- Stock shelves and display areas
- Keep stock clean and in order
- Price items using stamp or stickers according to price list
- Perform general cleaning duties (i.e. sweeping, mopping floors)
- Operate electric palette jack
- Provide customer service
