Grocery Clerk Job Description
A Grocery Clerk is responsible for stocking shelves, organizing merchandise, and assisting customers in grocery stores, supermarkets, and retail food establishments. They receive deliveries, unpack products, arrange items on shelves, monitor inventory levels, and ensure products are properly labeled and displayed. Grocery Clerks inspect products for quality, rotate stock to remove expired items, and maintain clean, organized aisles to provide a pleasant shopping experience. They also assist customers by answering questions, locating products, and providing friendly customer service. Grocery Clerks play an important role in ensuring the store remains well-stocked, organized, and compliant with food safety and company standards.
Main Responsibilities:
- Receive, unpack, and stock grocery products.
- Arrange merchandise and maintain attractive product displays.
- Monitor inventory and replenish stock as needed.
- Rotate products and remove expired or damaged items.
- Assist customers with locating products and answering inquiries.
- Maintain clean, organized shelves and store aisles.
- Help with pricing, labeling, and promotional displays.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety procedures.
Important Skills:
A successful Grocery Clerk should have excellent customer service and communication skills, attention to detail, organizational and time management abilities, physical stamina, and the ability to lift and move merchandise safely. Reliability, teamwork, basic inventory management skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment are also essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities
Tasks
- Direct customers to location of articles sought
- Unpack products received by store and count, weigh or sort items
- Order stock
- Stock shelves and display areas
- Keep stock clean and in order
- Price items using stamp or stickers according to price list
- Perform general cleaning duties (i.e. sweeping, mopping floors)
- Provide customer service
