Plumber Job Description
A Plumber is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. They work with water supply lines, drainage systems, pipes, fixtures, and appliances such as sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, and pumps. Plumbers read blueprints and technical drawings, diagnose plumbing problems, replace damaged components, test systems for leaks, and ensure all installations comply with building codes and safety regulations. They also perform routine maintenance, respond to emergency plumbing repairs, and advise customers on proper plumbing care and maintenance. Their role is essential in ensuring reliable water supply, sanitation, and drainage systems while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
Main Responsibilities:
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures.
- Diagnose plumbing problems and perform necessary repairs.
- Read blueprints and follow plumbing specifications.
- Install and test pipes, valves, water heaters, and drainage systems.
- Inspect plumbing systems for leaks and ensure proper operation.
- Perform routine maintenance and emergency repair services.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Follow building codes, health, safety, and workplace regulations.
Important Skills:
A successful Plumber should have strong technical and mechanical skills, knowledge of plumbing systems and building codes, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, manual dexterity, and physical stamina. Good communication and customer service skills, time management, the ability to read technical drawings, and proficiency with plumbing tools and equipment are also essential for delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality plumbing services.

Responsibilities
Tasks
- Install domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
- Repair domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
- Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems
- Instruct apprentices
- Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors
- Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
- Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment
- Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges
- Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing
- Estimate costs and materials
- Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size
