Firestopping Insulator Job Description
A Firestopping Insulator is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining firestopping systems that prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases through walls, floors, ceilings, and other building penetrations. They apply fire-resistant sealants, coatings, wraps, boards, and insulation materials around pipes, cables, ducts, and structural openings in accordance with building codes and fire safety standards. Firestopping Insulators read construction drawings, inspect work areas, prepare surfaces, and ensure all firestopping installations meet regulatory and manufacturer specifications. They also maintain tools and equipment, document completed work, and follow workplace health and safety procedures. Their role is essential in improving the fire safety and integrity of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
Main Responsibilities:
- Install and repair firestopping systems and fire-resistant insulation.
- Apply fire-resistant sealants, coatings, wraps, and other materials.
- Seal openings around pipes, ducts, cables, and structural penetrations.
- Read construction drawings and follow project specifications.
- Inspect completed installations to ensure compliance with fire safety standards.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area.
- Document completed work and report any issues.
- Follow workplace health, safety, and building regulations.
Important Skills:
A successful Firestopping Insulator should have knowledge of fire protection systems and insulation materials, attention to detail, manual dexterity, physical strength and stamina, and the ability to read construction drawings and technical specifications. Good problem-solving skills, teamwork, time management, reliability, and a strong commitment to workplace safety and building code compliance are also essential for delivering high-quality fire protection installations.
