Flat Roofer Job Description

A Flat Roofer is responsible for installing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining flat roofing systems on residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. They work with roofing materials such as asphalt, modified bitumen, single-ply membranes, built-up roofing, and waterproof coatings to create durable, weather-resistant roofs. Flat Roofers inspect roof surfaces, prepare work areas, remove old roofing materials, install insulation and waterproof membranes, seal joints, and ensure all roofing work meets building codes and safety standards. They also perform routine roof inspections, identify leaks or damage, and carry out repairs to extend the lifespan of roofing systems. Their role is essential in protecting buildings from water damage and maintaining structural integrity.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and replace flat roofing systems.
  • Prepare roof surfaces and remove damaged roofing materials.
  • Apply waterproof membranes, insulation, and protective coatings.
  • Seal roof joints and ensure proper drainage.
  • Inspect roofs for leaks, damage, and maintenance needs.
  • Operate roofing tools and equipment safely.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work site.
  • Follow workplace health, safety, and building regulations.

Important Skills:
A successful Flat Roofer should have strong knowledge of flat roofing systems and waterproofing techniques, physical strength and stamina, attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work safely at heights. Good problem-solving abilities, time management, teamwork, reliability, and proficiency in using roofing tools and equipment are also essential for delivering durable, high-quality roofing installations and repairs.
