Live-in Caregiver – Persons with Disabilities Job Description
A Live-in Caregiver for Persons with Disabilities provides full-time, in-home care and support to individuals with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities. Living in the client’s home, they assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, medication reminders, mobility assistance, and personal hygiene. They also provide companionship, emotional support, and help clients participate in social and recreational activities to promote independence and improve their quality of life. Live-in Caregivers monitor clients’ health and well-being, observe any changes in their condition, and report concerns to family members or healthcare professionals. They maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable living environment while respecting the client’s dignity, privacy, and individual preferences.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist clients with personal care and daily living activities.
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding when necessary.
- Provide mobility support and help with transfers.
- Offer companionship and emotional support.
- Remind clients to take medications as prescribed.
- Perform light housekeeping and laundry duties.
- Monitor clients’ health and report any concerns.
- Accompany clients to appointments and community activities when required.
Important Skills:
A successful Live-in Caregiver should have compassion, patience, and empathy, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They should possess strong caregiving abilities, time management, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, physical stamina, and the ability to work independently. Knowledge of disability care, safety procedures, confidentiality, adaptability, and a commitment to providing respectful, person-centered care are also essential for success in this role.
