Nanny Job Description
A Nanny is responsible for providing personalized, in-home care and supervision for children in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. They assist with daily routines such as feeding, bathing, dressing, and putting children down for naps or bedtime. Nannies plan educational, creative, and recreational activities that encourage children’s physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development. They may help with homework, prepare nutritious meals and snacks, accompany children to school or extracurricular activities, and maintain open communication with parents about the children’s progress and well-being. Nannies also perform light housekeeping related to childcare, maintain a clean and organized environment, and ensure children’s safety at all times.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care and supervision for children.
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks.
- Assist with bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene.
- Plan educational, creative, and recreational activities.
- Help children with homework and learning activities.
- Transport or accompany children to school, appointments, and activities.
- Perform light housekeeping related to childcare.
- Ensure children’s safety, well-being, and follow parents’ care instructions.
Important Skills:
A successful Nanny should have patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with children. They should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational and time management abilities, creativity, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm in emergencies. Knowledge of child development, first aid, safety practices, reliability, and a commitment to providing a caring, supportive, and secure environment are also essential for success in this role.
