Poultry Farm Worker Job Description

A Poultry Farm Worker is responsible for caring for chickens, turkeys, ducks, and other poultry while supporting the daily operations of a poultry farm. They feed and water birds, monitor their health and behavior, collect eggs, clean poultry houses, and maintain a safe and hygienic environment. Poultry Farm Workers also assist with vaccinating birds, sorting and packing eggs, handling poultry during transportation, and operating basic farm equipment. They inspect housing, feeding, and watering systems to ensure they function properly and report any health or equipment issues to supervisors. Their role is essential in maintaining the health of the flock, ensuring high production standards, and supporting efficient farm operations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Feed, water, and care for poultry daily.
  • Monitor the health and well-being of birds and report concerns.
  • Collect, clean, sort, and pack eggs when required.
  • Clean poultry houses, cages, and equipment.
  • Operate and maintain basic farm tools and equipment.
  • Assist with vaccinations, bird handling, and transportation.
  • Monitor feed, water, and ventilation systems.
  • Follow workplace health, safety, animal welfare, and biosecurity regulations.

Important Skills:
A successful Poultry Farm Worker should have physical strength and stamina, attention to detail, basic knowledge of poultry care and animal welfare, good teamwork and communication skills, and the ability to follow instructions. Time management, reliability, adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work in different weather and farm conditions are also essential. A strong commitment to hygiene, biosecurity, and workplace safety is important for maintaining healthy poultry and efficient farm operations.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose livestock health issues
  • Disinfect pens, barns or poultry houses

  • Feed and tend animals
  • Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
  • Clean stables, barns, barnyards and pens
  • Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock and poultry
  • Perform general farm duties
  • Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens and chicken coops
