General Farm Worker Job Description
A General Farm Worker performs a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of farms involved in crop production, livestock farming, or mixed agricultural activities. They plant, cultivate, irrigate, and harvest crops, feed and care for animals, clean barns and equipment, and help maintain farm buildings and machinery. General Farm Workers operate basic farm tools and equipment, monitor the health of crops and livestock, and follow safety and environmental regulations. They may also assist with sorting, packing, and preparing farm products for storage or transportation. Their work is essential to maintaining productive farm operations and ensuring high-quality agricultural output.
Main Responsibilities:
- Plant, water, cultivate, and harvest crops.
- Feed, monitor, and care for livestock.
- Operate and maintain basic farm tools and equipment.
- Clean barns, animal shelters, and work areas.
- Assist with sorting, packing, and transporting farm products.
- Monitor crop and animal health and report any issues.
- Maintain fences, buildings, and other farm facilities.
- Follow workplace safety and environmental guidelines.
Important Skills:
A successful General Farm Worker should have physical strength and stamina, the ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions, basic knowledge of farming practices, attention to detail, teamwork and communication skills, time management, problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to learn. - Mixing fertilizer
- Plant, cultivate and irrigate crops
- Weeding
- Fertilize and spray crops
- Harvest crops
- Provide agricultural crop services such as plowing, irrigating, cultivating, spraying or harvesting
- Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock and poultry
- Perform general farm duties
- Clean the crops
