Youth Worker Job Description

A Youth Worker supports the personal, social, emotional, and educational development of young people by providing guidance, mentorship, and positive recreational and community programs. They work with youth in schools, community centers, shelters, and social service organizations to promote healthy lifestyles, build confidence, and encourage positive decision-making. Youth Workers organize educational and recreational activities, provide one-on-one support, identify challenges affecting young people, and connect them with appropriate community resources and support services. They also work closely with families, schools, and other professionals to help young people overcome personal, social, or behavioral challenges while ensuring their safety and well-being.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver educational, recreational, and community programs for youth.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and emotional support to young people.
  • Encourage positive behavior, personal development, and life skills.
  • Assess the needs of youth and connect them with appropriate support services.
  • Build positive relationships with families, schools, and community organizations.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on client progress.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  • Follow safeguarding, health, safety, and organizational policies.

Important Skills:
A successful Youth Worker should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and strong relationship-building abilities. They should also possess problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, organizational and time management abilities, teamwork, cultural awareness, and the ability to motivate and inspire young people. Knowledge of youth development, safeguarding practices, community resources, and a commitment to supporting the well-being and personal growth of young people are also essential for success in this role.

Salary: 20.78 to 24.83 hourly (To be negotiated) / 84 hours bi-weekly
