Automotive Glass Technician Job Description
An Automotive Glass Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and replacing vehicle glass, including windshields, side windows, rear windows, and sunroofs on cars, trucks, buses, and other motor vehicles. They inspect damaged glass, assess repair or replacement needs, remove broken glass safely, install new glass using specialized tools and adhesives, and ensure proper sealing and alignment. Automotive Glass Technicians also calibrate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) when required after windshield replacement, maintain tools and equipment, and follow manufacturer specifications and workplace safety standards. They provide professional customer service by explaining repair procedures, offering maintenance advice, and ensuring all work meets quality and safety requirements.
Main Responsibilities:
- Inspect vehicle glass for damage and determine repair or replacement needs.
- Remove damaged or broken automotive glass safely.
- Install and seal new windshields, windows, and other vehicle glass.
- Repair minor chips and cracks when possible.
- Calibrate ADAS systems after windshield replacement when required.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area.
- Follow manufacturer guidelines and workplace safety regulations.
- Provide customers with information on glass care and maintenance.
Important Skills:
A successful Automotive Glass Technician should have strong technical and mechanical skills, attention to detail, manual dexterity, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge of automotive glass installation techniques. Good communication and customer service skills, time management, physical stamina, the ability to use specialized tools safely, and a commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety are also essential for success in this role.
