Mechanical Engineering Technician Job Description
A Mechanical Engineering Technician supports mechanical engineers in the design, development, testing, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment. They assist with preparing technical drawings, conducting inspections, assembling prototypes, performing equipment tests, collecting and analyzing data, and troubleshooting mechanical problems. Mechanical Engineering Technicians help ensure that machinery and mechanical components operate safely, efficiently, and according to technical specifications. They may work in manufacturing plants, construction projects, research facilities, or industrial environments, where they help improve production processes and maintain equipment reliability. They also prepare reports, maintain technical documentation, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist in designing and developing mechanical systems and equipment.
- Perform testing, inspections, and troubleshooting of machinery.
- Prepare and update technical drawings and documentation.
- Install, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment.
- Collect and analyze performance data.
- Support engineers during product development and manufacturing processes.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance records.
Important Skills:
A successful Mechanical Engineering Technician should have strong mechanical and technical knowledge, problem-solving and analytical skills, attention to detail, proficiency in reading technical drawings and blueprints, knowledge of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes, computer-aided design (CAD) skills, communication and teamwork abilities, time management skills, and the ability to safely operate testing and diagnostic equipment. Physical stamina and a commitment to workplace safety are also essential.
