Retail Meat Cutter Job Description

A Retail Meat Cutter is responsible for preparing, cutting, trimming, and packaging meat products for sale in supermarkets, grocery stores, butcher shops, and other retail food establishments. They use specialized knives, saws, and cutting equipment to process beef, poultry, pork, lamb, and other meats according to customer requests and company standards. Retail Meat Cutters ensure meat products are properly labeled, attractively displayed, and stored at safe temperatures to maintain freshness and quality. They also monitor inventory, rotate stock, maintain a clean work area, and follow food safety and sanitation regulations. In addition, they provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with product selection and preparation recommendations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Cut, trim, and prepare meat products for retail sale.
  • Package, label, and display meat according to company standards.
  • Operate meat cutting tools and equipment safely.
  • Maintain proper storage temperatures and rotate inventory.
  • Monitor product quality and remove expired or damaged items.
  • Keep work areas and equipment clean and sanitized.
  • Assist customers with meat selection and special orders.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety regulations.

Important Skills:
A successful Retail Meat Cutter should have strong knife handling and meat preparation skills, knowledge of different cuts of meat, attention to detail, excellent customer service and communication abilities, physical stamina, time management, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards, problem-solving skills, reliability, and a commitment to quality are also essential for success in this role.
