Tow Truck Driver Job Description
A Tow Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting disabled, damaged, illegally parked, or abandoned vehicles using specialized towing equipment. They respond to roadside assistance calls, recover vehicles involved in accidents, and transport them to repair shops, impound lots, or other designated locations. Tow Truck Drivers inspect vehicles before towing, secure them properly, operate towing equipment safely, and maintain accurate service and transportation records. They also provide courteous customer service, communicate with dispatchers, and ensure all towing operations comply with traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations. Their role is essential in providing reliable roadside assistance and vehicle recovery services.
Main Responsibilities:
- Operate a tow truck safely to transport vehicles.
- Respond to roadside assistance and vehicle recovery requests.
- Inspect and securely attach vehicles for towing.
- Load, transport, and unload vehicles safely.
- Complete towing records and service documentation accurately.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on the tow truck.
- Communicate with dispatchers, customers, and emergency personnel.
- Follow traffic laws, company procedures, and workplace safety regulations.
Important Skills:
A successful Tow Truck Driver should have excellent driving skills, knowledge of towing equipment and vehicle recovery techniques, strong problem-solving abilities, good communication and customer service skills, attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work calmly under pressure. Physical strength, basic mechanical knowledge, reliability, and a strong commitment to workplace and road safety are also essential for success in this role.

Salary: 28 bi-weekly / 30 to 60 hours bi-weekly + 25% commission per load
Minimum wage: Minimum wage is guaranteed
Terms of employment: Permanent employment Part time leading to full time

Responsibilities
Tasks
- Drive lighter, special purpose trucks
- Load and unload goods
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
- Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
- Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Receive and relay information to central dispatch
- Assemble mechanical equipment
