Meat-Packing Plant Labourer Job Description

A Meat-Packing Plant Labourer is responsible for assisting with the processing, packaging, and handling of meat products in a meat processing facility. They sort, trim, package, label, and prepare meat products for storage and distribution while ensuring all products meet quality and food safety standards. Meat-Packing Plant Labourers operate basic processing equipment, inspect products for defects, maintain cleanliness in production areas, and follow strict sanitation, hygiene, and workplace safety procedures. They also help load and unload products, organize inventory, and support production teams to ensure efficient processing and timely delivery of meat products.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Sort, trim, package, and label meat products.
  • Operate basic meat-processing equipment safely.
  • Inspect meat products for quality and remove defective items.
  • Prepare products for storage, shipment, and distribution.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and inventory handling.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety regulations.
  • Support production activities to meet daily processing targets.

Tasks

  • Transport raw materials, finished products and packaging materials
  • Measure and dump ingredients into hoppers of mixing and grinding machines
  • Remove filled containers from conveyors
  • Manually pack goods into bags and boxes or other containers
  • Feed and unload processing machines
  • Check products and packaging for basic quality defects
  • Clean machines and immediate work areas
