Early Childhood Educator (ECE) – Level 2 Job Description
An Early Childhood Educator (ECE) – Level 2 is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment for young children, typically from infancy to school age. They plan and implement age-appropriate educational activities that support children’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and language development. ECE Level 2 professionals observe and assess children’s progress, encourage positive behavior, and promote independence through play-based learning and structured activities. They maintain a clean and safe classroom, communicate regularly with parents and guardians, and work closely with other educators to support each child’s individual needs. They also ensure compliance with childcare regulations, health and safety standards, and early learning curriculum requirements.
Main Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate educational and recreational activities.
- Supervise children and ensure their safety and well-being.
- Support children’s learning, development, and social skills.
- Observe, assess, and document children’s progress.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment.
- Communicate with parents about children’s development and daily activities.
- Encourage positive behavior and healthy routines.
- Follow childcare policies, licensing requirements, and health and safety regulations.
Important Skills:
A successful Early Childhood Educator (ECE) – Level 2 should have strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience, creativity, compassion, and a genuine passion for working with children. They should also possess excellent organizational and time management abilities, observation and problem-solving skills, knowledge of child development and early learning practices, teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities
Tasks
- Assess the children’s development in order to prepare a learning plan tailored to his needs.
- Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers
- Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest
- Encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
- Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
- Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
- Knowledge of licensing regulations
- Establish guidelines for behaviour
- Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
- Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
- Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
