Laundry Machine Operator Job Description

A Laundry Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining industrial laundry equipment used to wash, dry, press, and fold clothing, linens, towels, and other textiles. They sort laundry by fabric type, color, and washing requirements, load and unload machines, measure and add detergents and cleaning chemicals, and monitor wash and drying cycles to ensure high-quality results. Laundry Machine Operators inspect items for stains or damage, perform basic machine maintenance, and keep the work area clean and organized. They work in hotels, hospitals, commercial laundries, and other facilities while following health, safety, and quality standards to ensure efficient laundry operations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Operate industrial washing, drying, and pressing machines.
  • Sort laundry according to fabric type, color, and washing instructions.
  • Load and unload laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Add detergents and cleaning chemicals in the correct quantities.
  • Inspect cleaned items for stains, damage, or quality issues.
  • Perform routine machine cleaning and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laundry area.
  • Follow workplace health, safety, and hygiene regulations.

  • Mix and add detergents, dyes, bleaches, starches and other solutions and chemicals
  • Hand fold and bag shirts, sheets and other articles
  • Assemble and bag finished articles
  • Check finished dry-cleaned or laundered articles to ensure that establishment standards are met
  • Match invoices or tags with dry-cleaned or laundered articles
  • Record damage or improper cleaning or laundering of articles
